April 9, 2012 Human Resource Executive Online recently interviewed Lilith for an article about making the business case for onboarding. Click here for the full article and see below for key excerpts from the interview with Lilith:

  • “From our client work as well as research on the topic, we definitely feel like onboarding is a great opportunity for an organization to create more value for the enterprise by investing up-front in the first year of a new hire’s entry into the organization”
  • “The fact of the matter is that folks are getting onboarded all the time, [it's] just that there is no central organization engineering that experience for the new hires”
  • “You have to show how a formal program will impact specific organizational benefits. It becomes an investment in the organization much more broadly and in a systemic way, rather than just being seen as a talent program”

The Partnership for Public Service projects that by 2012 the U.S. government will hire some 273,000 individuals for permanent, mission-critical positions. The organization also estimates that during the full four years of the new administration, new hiring for all types of federal government positions will reach nearly 600,000 people — a surge prompted in part by the large wave of federal workers expected to retire. In our discussion with Christopher, we will discuss how very important it is for Federal Agencies to prepare for effective onboarding in order to achieve the mission and objectives intended by this infusion of talent into the workforce. We will highlight the basis tenants and an overview for how to structure and realize The Onboarding Margin within the Federal workforce.
